Lake Te Anau was low, and East Cove was mainly a mud flat. I think this is the East Cove on the map, and it gave access to the track, but the small cove immediately north had the remains of a dock and a large orange triangle to mark the track start. There are good campsites in the bush (more peaceful than Brod Bay).
